In 2011, after Instagram was acquired by Facebook for 1 billion dollars, the logo has undergone some changes. The creator of the logo, Cole Rise, has replaced the original design with one called 'Glyptic'.
This new logo involved a reworking of the camera shape, but retained the same vintage colours and motifs as its predecessor. The main difference was the introduction of shadows to create a three-dimensional effect, giving more depth to the overall image.
In 2016, the Instagram logo underwent its most radical transformation. Designer Ian Spalter introduced a new design dubbed "Speed Racer", which was intended to be a simplistic and modern combination of camera and rainbow.
The new logo completely abandons the vintage look in favour of geometric shapes and bright colours. It now features a stylised camera relevant to smartphones, and a gradient of colours from magenta to yellow, discreetly symbolising the filters so popular with users.
This bold change sparked much reaction and controversy within the Instagram community, with some regretting the modernisation while others supported it as being more in tune with contemporary design trends.
